I've never been to one of these things... what do you do at a place like that?
I can only imagine myself buying stuff perhaps... but I'm not good at shopping in crowds or just plain bringing myself to spend money for any reason.

lol, there are panels to go to which are mini events or discussions run by certain people (the hosts who came up with the idea) these topics vary from Jfashion, anime series discussion, games, special topics, and randomness/fun/crazy crap, how to make plushies, how to play Shogi/Go, Hentai dubbing, how to survive a convention.
There are also main events which include AMV contest showing, which is fun to watch, sometimes a kendo organization shows off some stuff,
artist alley where you can see various stuff and support people selling stuff and get commissions etc, meet people.
Videogame section, Video section, Cosplay Masqurade (like a talent show for cosplayers), cosplay contest, karaoke contest
special events that are only announced when the schedule is made.
The "dance" , theres usually a band sometimes Japanese with a american band to open them. etc.
Signings from japanese people, artists and VA's , and american VA's. etc
Cosplay chess ....yea
AnimeNEXT is a nice place to start, its not too big/too small...compared to like Otakon, NYAF, comicon, Katsucon.

If you want an even smaller con coming up is CPAC at the end of March. It's not that bad, and it does get you into how cons roll. There is a lot more stuff that happens at bigger cons like AnimeNEXT, Otakon, etc, but for a first timer, wanting to test the waters, a college con isn't a bad place to start either.
