Why do YOU watch anime?
Prizes range from 9999 (max damage!) to OVER NINE THOUSAAAAAAND! (prizes may or may not be a lie)
Im just curious why you all watch anime, and/or give reasons for watching whatever specific genre of anime you watch.

i watch anime probably because i'm a fan of animations in general. part of me wanted to do children cartoons when i'm older. or work in cartoons in general.
but the thing with anime is, it's usually has better writing then most american cartoons. and i feel like most american cartoons are just there for laughs. whereas animes delve into other things. like Serial Experiments Lain and No E In (or however the f**k you spell it).
not that i hate american cartoons, but there's not much diversity in them. at least, not anymore. so yea. feels like there's more i have to say, but can't remember shit right now.

Why do I watch anime? That is a very hard to answer question. There are many reasons why I watch anime first and foremost being the fact that the majority of the story lines have a unique complexity to them. Add to that the fact that is spans across so many different genres and has characters from all walks of life and I was sold.

Why do I watch Anime, specifically? It's an escape from reality. One that' conveniently packaged into 30 min trips, unlike books (Novels, or what I call 'wordys') which can take hours to take you anywhere.
Why Anime over American Cartoons? I like the art style better, and like it has been said the story lines and general scripts, right down to the smallest exchange of dialogue are generally better. Few American Cartoons I've seen can match up to any decent Anime.
Though there are a few specific American Cartoons that shine brighter than a good amount of Anime as well. For example the old Batman cartoons, not the oldest... the one I grew up with. The newest Batman cartoons in my opinion are quite bad on the other hand.
Also I strongly feel this should go into the Anime section.

Okay, Um, it would be cool if one of the mods/admins could move this thread to the anime section.... Also I would like to nominate The Stranger to be a forum mod since he is one of the founding fifteen...and patrols the forum like nobody's business anyways. And he's got a cool hat.

I agree completely with The Stranger. Anime is an escape from reality. They are able to do things that humans in the real world can't, and in my opinion is better than even fantasy movies. Also, if you work on your art skills, you can create your own paradise and escape like I have done with countless mini mangas.
I also agree with HoongFu that he has really nice hats.

Moved. XD
So far, admins and mods are kept pretty much to people on the executive board. We don't need anymore more admins or mods right now I think, but we'll keep your nomination in mind~
Now for why I watch anime... 'cuz it's there.
Ok, seriously, I watch it since I find them a lot more compelling than most cartoons/ shows on TV here in the States. There is a lot more character development and a continuing plot than most American cartoons. A Storyline in anime is generally much better than any other cartoon I see on TV.

I think I got into anime because it was something different from the normal cartoons that populated Cartoon Network at the time. It was new, exciting, and alot more human than american cartoons (at this point of time anyway) could ever do

Short answer, because I've grown up watching it. Anime(Intricate plots, relate able characters) Vs. US Cartoons(Random nonlinear plot, likeable but unrelatable characters). Anime appeals to my overactive imagination and as ppl above have mentioned, it's an escape from reality. Since I don't want this to turn into an essay I'll just leave it at that for now. Jaa Ne
